Province sign All Black Chris Jack for Currie Cup

Widely regarded as one of the world’s best second row forwards, Jack will be tasked to fulfil a similar role to that of former internationals Tony Brown and Federico Mendez, who were previously brought on board to play a mentoring role amongst the young players in the Province.

Jack made his test debut for New Zealand against Argentina in 2001 and has earned 67 test caps for his country. He signed with UK based club Saracens after the 2007 Rugby World Cup and carries with him the championship experience of being involved with the Crusaders – the team who has won the Super Rugby tournament more than any other SANZAR franchise.

With Andries Bekker likely to be involved with the Springboks during the Absa Currie Cup campaign and stalwart Adriaan Fondse out with injury, Jack’s involvement may prove crucial. Youngsters like Hilton Lobberts, Martin Muller, George Earle, De Kock Steenkamp and Mzi Zito will benefit greatly from working alongside Jack.

Jack will return to New Zealand after the 2009 Currie Cup and it is believed that he will once again be involved with the Crusaders in the 2010 Super 14 competition.
